I came to the UK almost 25 years ago from India to work in the growing IT industry for banks. However, I struggled to understand the savings and investment landscape in the UK, littered with confusing acronyms and convoluted tax structures. There was no one to explain these things and companies did not really bother about educating their employees. While we had comfortable life style, we had no savings even in our mid-thirties. An office party conversation was a turning point for me.
I spent the next few years learning about the financial and tax environment in the UK and actively started saving for our future. Along the way I realized that I was not alone in getting lost – many of my friends and colleagues were in similar position. This was my trigger for starting the financial education programme for adults in the UK.
